Dave arrives at Magicraft
Wave Game Studio and Bilibili Games have released new free DLC for Magicraft, the popular spell-based action roguelike, including a crossover with Dave Diver. This update introduces new hand-crafted stages, fearsome bosses, and a complete technical overhaul based on DOTS optimizations, marking the next evolution of the game's magic systems.
Since its full release in 2024, Magicraft has sold over 700,000 copies worldwide and has a 90% “Very Positive” rating on Steam, earning recognition as one of the most successful indie roguelikes in China. The new crossover combines the underwater charm of Dave the Diver with the mystical world of Magicraft, adding both creative flair and technical sophistication.
In this crossover adventure, Dave plunges into a mysterious realm of magic, wielding his signature harpoon to battle massive sea creatures including a giant squid, a hermit crab truck, and John Watson. Players can upgrade the harpoon with magical runes such as Triple Axel and Harpoon Tip, unlocking new strategies and combat options. The update also includes new environments inspired by Bancho Sushi and Sea People Record, each filled with hidden secrets and interactive elements.
Under the hood, Magicraft is undergoing its most comprehensive performance update to date. The developers overhauled the game's core using DOTS, resulting in smoother spell casting, improved encounter and summoning systems, and improved visuals. Changes to spell formulas and damage balance open up even more opportunities to experiment with rune combinations.
Meanwhile, the mobile version of Magicraft is close to completion and is expected to be released by the end of 2025. Built with DOTS optimization and touch controls, it aims to provide mobile players with a complete spell crafting experience while maintaining the game's signature depth and style.
