Magic just revealed 38 new Marvel Super Heroes cards (including an epic Commander deck)

Magic: Gatheringcrossover with Avatar: The Last Airbender still feels fresh, but the game's publisher, Wizards of the Coast, is already teasing an upcoming release. Marvel Superheroes recruitment is scheduled for June 2026.

The December 9 episode of the official Wizards WeeklyMTG web show, hosted by Blake Rasmussen, included a series of new card announcements. Rasmussen was joined on the show by Command Zone podcast host Rachel Weeks and actor Gabriel Luna, who played Ghost Rider Robbie Reyes on the series. Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. (Rasmussen was quick to point out that Ghost Rider doesn't appear in the new issue.)

Pre-orders for the new set haven't gone live yet, but here's a look at the 38 new cards that will be released as part of Marvel superheroes.

Marvel Super Heroes Core Set Cards

The very first reveal was Captain America, Super Soldier. A legendary 3/2 creature that costs three mana, this mono-white Cap has first strike and comes with a shield counter (which negates one chunk of damage or any other attempt to target the creature). Whenever he has a shield token, his controller and any other Heroes he controls also gain hex resistance.

With the third card – Quicksilver, Brash Blur – a new mechanic was introduced called Power-Up, which is a bit like Exhaust: it powers up a creature, but can only be used once. In this case, you pay four colorless and one red mana to put a +1/+1 counter and a double strike counter on it. However, in addition, the buff's cost is reduced by the creature's mana the turn it enters the battlefield. Based on what Rasmussen said during the stream, it looks like Power-Up will be one of the core mechanics Marvel Superheroes.

While discussing Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur, Rasmussen also noted that “whenever an artifact you control comes in,” the Marvel Super Heroes set will have triggers depicting a superhero or supervillain “inventing” something. And later, when Doctor Doom was revealed, the hosts lingered on the note that Doom is indestructible as long as the player controls the artifact being… or “The Plan.”

Rasmussen then revealed “Doom Reigns Supreme”, an enchantment card with the Plan subtype that collects a Plan token whenever a villain enters. Finally, with five plan counters, he exiles the top five cards of his opponent's library and casts two spells from that pile without paying a mana cost. Plan cards are literally long-term plans with milestones for decks to focus on. A standard deck with four copies of it and a host of baddies supporting it could theoretically banish 20 cards from your opponent's deck – and allow you to cast eight of them for free. This is really very villainous.

Naturally, the Incredible Hulk is incredibly powerful, with his Fury giving more and more +1/+1 every time he is hit. But even basic Bruce Banner draws X cards when you pay XX. Also returning are “Magic Sagas” such as “The Coming of Galactus” and “World War Hulk.” The latter allows you to cast a red or green creature spell for free, then you put three +1/+1 counters on target creature, then double the creature's power and toughness and give it trample until end of turn. This is the perfect “crush it very quickly” maneuver. Meanwhile, Advent of Galactus ends up giving you a terrifying 16/16 Elder Alien creature token that destroys the ground whenever it attacks.

Marvel Super Heroes Art Showcase Cards and Reprints

A variety of cards from Marvel Super Heroes will also be available in special comic book-themed designs, including creatures such as Bruce Banner/Hulk and Doctor Doom, as well as Plane cards such as The Coming of Galactus.

And as usual, Wizards is also taking the opportunity to reprint some older Marvel cards. This includes three new options Heroic Intervention. The real highlight here, however, is the Horn of Greed, which features a meme-worthy Marvel Comics moment of Doctor Doom honking the horn. This will almost certainly be a chase card.

Marvel Super Heroes Commander Preview Decks

Halfway through the livestream, Rasmussen revealed the Fantastic Four card designs:

He also confirmed that they will appear next to each other in a single red-green-white-blue commander deck, and the player can only choose one of them to be the commander. Each of these cards are excellent on their own and can fit into many other deck archetypes. Each member of Marvel's first family gets some kind of perk or buff at the start of combat if you cast a noncreature spell that turn, as well as a second activated ability that costs four mana.

We don't know what other early Marvel superhero speculations will focus on, but based on this trend, it's possible we'll see other teams like the Avengers or Defenders. And we have to assume that Wizards will also offer some kind of villain-focused Commander deck. Perhaps Thanos is about to appear and begin collecting infinity stones?

It will also be interesting to see how this Marvel Super Heroes set stacks up against the Spider-Man cards. For all we know, one of the most maligned sets of 2025 could turn out to be much stronger with the right interactions. We'll find out in June.
