Macaulay Culkin is Christmas movie royalty thanks to his iconic role as Kevin McCallister in 1990's Home Alone and 1992's Home Alone 2: Lost in New York.Die HardChristmas movie?
“No, no, it's not like that. Don't fight me!” Culkin recently responded during an interview with Mythical Kitchen. “It's tied to Christmas, but if it was also St. Patrick's Day, it would still work. But you couldn't do Home Alone on Memorial Day. It doesn't work that way.”
Culkin then joked: “Today I'm the godfather of Christmas. My opinion has some weight in this debate.”
There has been debate online for years about whether or not Bruce Willis' 1988 action classic is a Christmas movie. “Elves” star Zooey Deschanel recently spoke about “Call her dad” podcast about how Die Hard is her favorite Christmas movie. But Culkin is officially ruling out the Die Hard Christmas movie when it comes to Christmas movies.
Kalkin recently made headlines during his “A Night of Nostalgia with Macaulay Culkin” tour, when he said he “wouldn't be completely allergic” to returning as Kevin McCallister in the new “Home aloneContinuation. Although he added: “It should be just right.” Luckily, Culkin already has an idea for a sequel that he would be interested in directing.
“I had this idea,” Culkin said. “I'm either a widower or a divorcee. I'm raising a kid and everything. I work really hard and don't pay enough attention, and the kid kind of gets annoyed with me and then they shut me down.” [Kevin’s son] doesn't let me in… and it's he who sets traps for me.
The director of “Home Alone” and “Home Alone 2” Chris Columbus spoke about this. Entertainment tonight in August that a new Home Alone film should never be made.
“I think Home Alone does exist, but not in these hours, but it was a very special moment and you can’t replicate it,” Columbus said. “I think it would be a mistake to try to go back and redo what we did 35 years ago. I think it should be left alone.”
