NICE, France (AP) — Seven-time champion Lyon missed the chance to leapfrog Paris Saint-Germain at the top of Ligue 1 after a second straight defeat on Saturday.
Lyon could have taken charge of Ligue 1 by beating Nice following PSG's 3-3 home draw with Strasbourg, but instead lost 3-2 despite a lengthy dominance on the French Riviera.
The visitors quickly fell behind when Nice defender Melvin Bard headed home Sofiane Diop's precise cross in the fifth minute.
Lyon controlled most of the first half and deservedly equalized just before the half-hour mark through Pavel Sulc's header.
However, Nice made the most of their rare chances and retook the lead five minutes later when Diop went from provider to scorer with a fine strike from a tight angle.
Lyon's Ainsley Maitland-Niles scored a penalty after the break, but his shot was saved by Nice's Yehwann Diouf.
Hicham Boudaoui sealed the win with a strike in the 55th. Soulc pulled one back in stoppage time for Lyon, but it wasn't enough.
Nice moved up to eighth place, four points behind Lyon, who were two points behind PSG.
Monaco later traveled to Angers, while Marseille recorded their fifth straight win in all competitions over Le Havre.
