Explore the lost kingdom in Loulan: The Cursed Sand
Cold room announced that their upcoming action RPG Loulan: The Cursed Sand will be coming to PlayStation 5. The game is set in the lost kingdom of Loulan on the ancient Silk Road. The game invites players to step into the bones of the Cursed Sand, a skeletal warrior connected to the power of sand. His journey is filled with tragedy and devotion as he searches for his lost princess and uncovers secrets. Taking inspiration from the real-life archaeological discovery of “Princess Xiaohe”, the story combines ancient history, myth and emotion into a thrilling adventure.
The protagonist embodies a dual-form warrior who simultaneously guides life and decay. In the form of sand, golden grains swirl around his body, providing balance and fluidity in battle. When the sands are released to forge a massive blade, it transforms into its skeletal form, a ruthless fighter capable of taking on multiple opponents. Throughout his journey, the Cursed Sand will encounter many powerful enemies, from the radiant royal family of Loulan, wielding the power of the sun, to the frost-bound spider clans of the western regions.
Developed by a cross-regional team of 16 people with support from Sony Interactive Entertainment's China Hero Project, Loulan: The Cursed Sand combines the team's passion for classic action games with their fascination with the mythology of the Silk Road. Many of the developers have previously worked with renowned studios, including Santa Monica Studio, FromSoftware and PlatinumGames.
Designed in a retro style from top to bottom, the game combines arcade combat with modern mechanics. It promises to offer players an exciting journey through deserts, ruins and rivers of living sand.
