The Utah Mammoth announced it has reached an agreement with Logan Cooley.
The striker signed an eight-year contract (from 2026 to 2034) worth $80 million. He will earn $10 million per season under the terms of the contract, which does not include a signing bonus.
This is the third-largest contract in history for a player out of his rookie contract.

The question is, who would we rather have: Logan Cooley at $10 million or Juraj Slafkowski at $7.6 million. These are the two players the Canadiens could have with their first pick in June 2022.
Cooley was drafted third overall by the now-defunct Coyotes.
As for the player himself , The answer is Logan Cooley. In October 2025, he is the better player of the two, he plays center, he scores more goals, scores more points, and so on.
Cooley would be an incredible player in Montreal. one-two punch in the center with Nick Suzuki.
But I'd be curious to ask Kent Hughes. After all, he's looking for a center… but he's also the one who chose Slough over centers like Shane Wright and Logan Cooley.
Without wanting to challenge his intentions, I'm sure the Habs CEO would raise two questions.

Cooley, who plays primarily center, may one day be better than Nick Suzuki. It's hard to say because both continue to progress.
But at $10 million, Cooley would be paid more than anyone else in Montreal. It is clear that the Mammoth player did not take advantage of the discount that we often see here. Or at least he didn't take advantage of the same discount we see in Montreal.
More importantly, if Slough were out of town, who would be playing with Nick Suzuki and Cole Caufield?
I agree that it is more difficult to develop a top-notch center than a winger. But the chemistry that the guys from the first line have developed together over the years is already bearing fruit in Montreal.

I believe if Kent Hughes were asked about this, he would say that to create a hockey team that aspires to the Stanley Cup, you need certain ingredients.
And that's not true: If Slough is to play a major role in an eventual Stanley Cup run, Cooley will be the least of Habs fans' worries.
But on the other hand, from a talent perspective, it is true that the Canadiens could draft Logan Cooley, Matvey Michkov and Ivan Demidov from 2022 to 2024.
I find the discussion interesting. But since Slough isn't done developing yet and seems to want to move on to the next level, we'll give him time to see what he can become before judging the 2022 draft.

The market was already about there before Cooley signed as he turned down the 8 X 9.6M bid.
That being said, Pinto is older and has more years at UFA to operate, so negotiations should still be fun.
