After her success best year breakup album West End Girl, Lily Allen admits that she is “convinced [she's] billionaire” and has signed up for eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) therapy over the past four months due to an apparent shopping addiction, which she says has led to recent purchases of a £120,000 Porsche and a £16,500 Hermes handbag.
“You need to pamper yourself and celebrate this moment. I'm convinced that I'm a billionaire. Bags bought, jewelry bought and a car bought,” the singer-songwriter shared on the Christmas episode of her show. Miss me? podcast with Mikita Oliver.
She added: “I think I'm trying to get rid of it (the money) because I don't think I deserve it.”
Describing her EMDR experience, Allen said, “You typically start by choosing an area, such as a traumatic experience, that you want to focus on, then you visualize that experience and identify the feelings that arise in your body and mind, and the level of pain decreases.”
She continued, “If you're trying to stop a negative behavior like spending or doing drugs, you do the opposite and think about a good feeling and try to separate that feeling from your self-esteem… In my case, with the handbag, you separate it by saying this handbag makes me a better person. It's really interesting… I don't know much about science, but it works for me.”
