We've heard a lot about RGB TV technology from all the leading companies – Sony And Samsung included – and now LG will debut at CES 2026 (Consumer Electronics Show) what it believes is the best of the best: a Micro RGB TV that can deliver one of the widest color gamuts we've ever seen on an LCD display.
The annual exhibition will feature the first LG Micro RGB TV, called LG Micro RGB evo. Like other RGB TVs, including Samsung Micro RGB TV that I saw in personwhose bright image clearly outshines many Mini-LED TVs with brighter, more refined colors – the idea here is brighter output and better controlled local dimming for one of the best pictures possible.
Essentially, it's about combining high brightness with precise level control for deeper blacks and a more immersive visual experience overall. The new backlight and processor combine with what LG calls Micro Dimming Ultra, a term that refers to the more than 1,000 local dimming zones found in the Micro RGB evo. It's not quite OLED – where individual pixels can be turned off completely for perfect blacks – but it should get closer to that than most other LCD TVs.
In terms of color, LG notes that Micro RGB evo is certified by Intertek for 100% color gamut coverage in BT.2020, DCI-P3 and Adobe RSL. This is a statement about the range of colors that the TV can display and is not a guarantee of perfect color accuracy out of the box.
Still, it's a rare triple, and if LG's implementation is tuned well (and we'll be keeping a close eye on it once we see it in person), the Micro RGB evo could end up among the best LCD TVs ever released.
New in 2026, the third-generation α11 AI processor also has several features, including the ability to simultaneously process two AI upscaling tracks. While many smart TVs have offered upscaling for generations, LG promises this approach will improve sharpness without deviating from a natural image.
Like other LG TVs, the Micro RGB evo comes with WebOS, offering access to major streaming services and a range of AI-powered features including chatbotvoice ID and image quality improvements.
LG isn't the first, but RGB TV technology is starting to get interesting
LG is not the first brand to showcase RGB TV technology. Samsung and Hisense have already demonstrated it and are selling TVs, but Micro RGB evo suggests the category is growing quickly. LG's emphasis on a wider color gamut and tighter backlight control could give the company a significant advantage, especially for HDR content.
What's particularly promising is that RGB TVs continue to close the gap between LCD and OLED. If LG can combine its wide color gamut claims with strict factory calibration and effective local dimming, it could be an attractive option for buyers who want larger screen sizes, high brightness and fewer long-term risks than OLED. Price will also be a factor, but LG hasn't said that yet, and competing RGB kits aren't cheap.
However, CES 2026 will be a turning point for next-generation TV technology. With other manufacturers expected to show off their own approaches to Micro RGB, advanced Mini-LED and alternative lighting solutions, the LG Micro RGB evo likely won't be the only standout exhibit on the show floor. We'll be keeping a close eye on developments and what other surprises emerge once CES launches.
LG Micro RGB evo (model MRGB95) will be released in 75-inch, 86-inch and 100-inch sizes later in 2026.
