Letters, Oct. 12, 2025: ‘New PM too much like our last PM’

The new prime minister is similar to the old prime minister. He flies around the world, ignoring internal problems. If you can believe it, he'll have a bigger deficit than J.T. He gives preference to the eastern provinces. Ontario voters don't worry about deficits, Quebec only cares about Quebec. The prairie provinces are conservative. These regional political patterns will not change. It is what it is.

About charter schools…

Alberta teachers are on strike for more money, but the Alberta government says it can't afford to pay them what they want. I don't think many people in this province realize that the Government of Alberta funds private and charter schools in this province. The government SHOULD NOT FUND THESE SCHOOLS when we have a public system. If parents want to send their children to private or charter schools, they (the parents) must pay the full cost of that education. This will allow more money to flow into the government system.

A little math about teachers

(Re: Sims: Alberta teachers must prepare for long strike,' Calgary SunOctober 8.) Sims had many so-called facts about teachers. I wonder if she also thinks MLAs, who earn tens of thousands more than teachers and have more free time, should take a pay cut? And the highest paid in Western Canada? Well, that's Alberta wages in 2027 for some only, after taxes (are tax cuts part of our wages now?) and doesn't take into account the proven additional hours Alberta teachers work, nor the additional complications. I don't think we're paying for extra hours and more responsibility at work these days.

(Teachers deserve to be paid fairly for their work. And we think Chris would probably agree if the MLAs cut their hair a little)

Sharp in battle

(Re: Bell – “Wake up, Calgary!” Sonya Sharp tears apart the updated Farkas” Calgary SunOctober 11.) I think Jeromy Farkas is tired of going to mountains after mountains. So he wants the inside job for the next four years, at least until October 2029? But he faces stiff competition for the top job at Calgary City Hall. And her name is Sonya Sharp. While Farkas has been climbing mountains, Sharp has been fighting for her constituents in District 1 for the past four years.

Gone but not forgotten

Moody Blues bassist John Lodge has died at the age of 82. The Moody Blues are still my favorite band. What are the classic songs: Nights in white satin, I'm just a singer in a rock and roll band, History in your eyes, Isn't life strange. Condolences to his family and friends.

Paul Bacon

(Some catchy tunes, of course)
