I'm here in Las Vegas for Lenovo Tech World and CES 2026, and Lenovo has some exciting new developments to share. One of the most interesting today is the Lenovo Legion Pro Rollable: a 16-inch laptop whose screen expands to 23.8 inches at the touch of a button.
This isn't the first time Lenovo has unveiled a proof of concept for a foldable laptop. CES 2025 with foldable ThinkBook Plus Gen 6 — but this is Lenovo's first horizontally rotating display and the first time it's been tested on a gaming laptop.
Introducing Legion Pro Rollable
The star of the show here is the foldable 16-inch PureSight. OLED display. It expands from 16 inches dubbed “Focus Mode” (16:10), to 21.5 inches “Tactical Mode” (21:9) with a simple keyboard shortcut, and again to 23.8 inches “Arena Mode” (24:9) at maximum expansion.
It has some pretty impressive specs like a 240Hz refresh rate and 1ms response time. Lenovo didn't have any games loaded onto the Legion Pro Rollable, but I was able to test the screen opening and folding, using the keyboard and trackpad, and imagining what it would be like to game on this first-of-its-kind laptop.
At a minimum screen size of 16 inches, this is a sleek Legion laptop with Lenovo's usual high level of polish. When fully expanded, it looks like a computer you'd see in a spaceship from a sci-fi movie, with breathtaking proportions and ultra-thin bezels.
What was also extremely impressive was that the screen takes no time to “think” about expanding – no flashes of black, no “expanding in progress” overlay – you just press a button and it expands in size without skipping a beat.
A Lenovo representative mentioned that you can close the lid when the screen is fully extended, although this may not be a good idea in terms of display longevity.
Beyond the foldable screen, this is an impressive high-end gaming laptop with a powerful full-size RGB keyboard, a large, smooth trackpad, and a solid selection of ports. It also features an RGB light strip along the bottom edge of the back side.
Inside, the Legion Pro Rollable is equipped with flagship-level hardware, including up to Nvidia RTX 5090 Mobile GPU and Intel Core Ultra 9 processor.
Will this laptop ever go into production?
Lenovo is positioning the Legion Pro Rollable as a solution for esports athletes who travel frequently and need to train on large displays like the ones they use in tournaments.
This concept makes sense, and I can see the benefits of traveling with a 16″ gaming laptop rather than trying to save space and time to fit a 24″ monitor in a backpack.
But I'm not sure this is a problem that needs to be solved.
Many major esports organizations provide equipment for players to use once they arrive at their destination, often at the expense of sponsors. Players are rarely expected to bring their own computer and monitor to events, although many choose to bring peripherals such as keyboards and mice that they use every day.
First-person shooter professionals often push setup and viewing angles to extremes to stay on top, positioning the monitor the same way every time and positioning it just a few inches away from the display. It's worth noting that while the screen expands horizontally, you can't adjust its vertical position (without a laptop stand or the old stack of books trick).
As for casual PC gamers, I doubt this will be the most cost-effective solution on the market.
It's better to invest in a quality budget gaming laptop and a 24-inch monitor to connect it to. No, you won't be able to travel easily with this monitor, but in a pinch you can always use a smaller screen.
But of course, the Legion Pro Rollable is a proof of concept. Lenovo pushes the boundaries of what computer enthusiasts call “normal”, challenges the limitations of modern computing technology and introduces new ideas.
And that's why I like it.
