Baldur's Gate 3 developer Larian comes under fire after reveals it uses AI for concept art and placeholder text in new Divinityalthough the company also assured fans that the final game will not feature any AI-generated content. Now one of the most respected names in the D&D community is speaking out in support of Larian.
Robert Koontz, one of the original D&D writers and designers whose work informed the franchise and role-playing games in general in the '70s, shared a tweet defending Larian and CEO Sven Vincke.

In a separate and longer tweetKoontz slammed criticism of Larian as “mind-blowing rage bait” from people with “bad actor syndrome.” He also suggested that fans of role-playing games and D&D should be more appreciative of the people who make the games they enjoy.
“The role-playing game community, which I helped create and develop from 1972 to 1974, used to be much more appreciative and courteous to the creators of their hobby,” he said.
AI is obviously a hugely pressing issue right now, and Vincke himself admitted that it “causes a lot of emotion,” insisting that Larian only uses it to better understand “cutting-edge developments.” Just today he said “a lot got lost in translation” regarding his previous comments about artificial intelligence, and “it would be irresponsible of us not to evaluate new technologies” and that the AMA will come to help explain what the hell is going on. Because wouldn't we all like to know that?
