Remember the Blue Protocol? Amazon Games' much-hyped MMO with an anime aesthetic and lots of social systems. Fine, this game was closed a while ago, but Tencent-backed developer Bokura recently revived it in Blue Protocol: Star Resonance, which managed to attract a ton of players with mixed reactions.
Blue Protocol: Star Resonance released on Steam earlier this week and gained popularity almost immediately. 94,000 concurrent players race capybaras, fight monsters with friends, and engage in mini-games that wouldn't look out of place in Genshin Impact.
Steam user reviews Paint a slightly bleaker picture, however, as only 48% of the 6,000 players who left reviews gave it a thumbs up. Star Resonance currently has a Mixed rating, with many complaining about the excess currency and how the game blocks players from accessing certain content.
“The art and style are cool, but that's about all the good stuff,” says one review. “This gacha sucks for mobile gamers. Everything is time-limited, with limited daily attempts boiling down to a list of things to do to get you logged in every day.”
“It prevents you from progressing through the story, farming, dungeons, mining, etc,” says another. “Basically, you're not allowed to play for more than 30 minutes without being banned from something. Everything is an indicator of energy. It's a mobile gacha game that tries to compete with real MMORPG games but can't compare.”
Another simply lists 16 in-game currencies/vouchers.
