After the tragedy that occurred when a man drove an SUV into a crowd at last year's festival Lapu-Lapu Day in Vancouver, killing 11 people and injuring many others, a Filipino B.C. announced that the street festival will return in 2026.
Takes place on weekends from 17 to 19 AprilThis year's event will focus on “remembrance and healing” and will include at least one memorial gathering to honor those killed in the 2025 Filipino-Canadian Cultural Celebration. The organization said it is working closely with the City of Vancouver, the province and first responders to ensure safety measures are in place.
“As we look to the future, we focus community healing and remembrance along with cultural pride,” said RJ Aquino, chairman of the Philippine B.C. “This festival is a way to come together safely, make space to grieve, and reaffirm our commitment to each other through culture, connection and collective care.”
Full details for Lapu Lapu Day 2026 have yet to be revealed, including musical guests: Last year's festival featured performances from the likes of Black Eyed Peas' Apl.de.Ap and local multi-talented artist Kaya Ko.
Adam Kai-Ji Lo, the driver accused of driving through the crowded festival on April 26, 2025, faces 11 counts of second-degree murder and 31 counts of attempted murder.
