Lane Hutson at the 2026 Olympics: it’s not just Quinn Hughes working against him

The 2026 Olympics, where NHL players will return, are getting closer. Everything is planned for February next year… but in reality the international lineups should be announced long before then.

After six weeks, the federations will have to announce which players have been selected.

And what seems increasingly clear is that Nick Suzuki will be part of the Canadian team. TSNPlayers Craig Button and Mike Johnson ranked him alongside McLean Celebrini and Mitch Marner for third on Team Canada.

But when it comes to the U.S. roster, the Habs players seem much less confident in their place. Cole Caufield has a chance(although now he would not be included in the squad), but for Lane Hutson it looks much less likely.

And tonight during Insider trading segmentPierre Lebrun also spoke about the Hutson case… and, according to him, there is two reasons why he has little chance.

We're talking about the presence of Quinn Hughes here (who we've talked about at length) … but LeBrun believes Hutson's lack of experience will also work against him.

According to LeBrun, it's not just Quinn Hughes playing Hutson. Do you have a feeling that Team USA Hall executives want guys with some track record in the NHL.

This is despite the fact that no American guard has scored as many points this season as the Habs guard.

Then it is clear that be that as it may many management likes Hutson (according to LeBrun), we shouldn't expect him to be in the lineup, even as an extra.

The good news is that this suggests he has a better chance of being there in the future, be it the World Cup in 2028 or the Olympics in 2030.
