PARIS (AP) — Defender Kenny Lala gave Brest problems with two serious errors in Saturday's 3-1 Ligue 1 loss to Rennes.
Lala was responsible for Rennes' first two goals after Brest took the lead through striker Mama Balde.
Rennes responded with back-to-back goals from top scorer Esteban Lepaul and Jordanian striker Moussa Al-Taamari.
They have Lala to thank.
On the first goal, the right-back caught the ball at his feet and lost his balance, allowing Al-Taamari to advance down the left flank and cross for Lepaul to send the ball into the net in the 24th minute.
A minute later, Lala attempted a back pass for the first time on the halfway line and completely misjudged the ball at waist height, allowing Al-Taamari to take advantage to push forward and finish strongly.
Rennes later scored a third through 18-year-old striker Mohamed Kader Meite, who converted Quentin Merlin's cross from the left.
Later, defending champion Paris Saint-Germain plays Metz.
PSG coach Luis Enrique fielded Matvey Safonov in goal, although main goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier has already recovered from a minor ankle injury.
In another match on Saturday, Paris will host Tolosa.
street fight
Fans of rival Metz and Paris Saint-Germain clashed in a brief street brawl hours before the match.
Images online showed around 70-80 ultras involved in the clash before riot police dispersed them with tear gas.
Beautiful in bad condition
Lens take on a Nice side on Sunday that are in complete disarray after losing eight games in a row.
Nice's form has been so poor that they find themselves bottom of the 36-team Europa League group stage, having lost all six of their games so far.
