A new children's comic that combines a fun story with science facts will hit bookstore shelves at the end of September.
Written by scientist Victoria Cerdeira, Monster Science was designed to spark the curiosity of young people and make learning science fun but accessible to everyone.
In this first part, the author focuses on DNA, cell biology and genetics, explaining in particular her protagonist's vitiligo in strong language, but adapted for children aged 6 to 12 years.
“We sometimes hear phrases like 'science is magic'… But no. There is a scientific explanation for these kinds of phenomena, and I really want children to be able to learn real scientific words and understand them,” the scientist, who uses, for example, throughout her story, building blocks to illustrate the genetic code or even two chromosomes, explained in an interview with QMI.
“Comics also allow me to create a more dynamic story and explain things more easily,” the author continued.
Published September 25, Monster Science available in English, French and Spanish.
Anna Pomelova signs the illustrations.
