Wake up baby, there's a new awkward moment between Kim Kardashian and Kourtney Kardashian Barker that needs to be analyzed.
This time, people are debating who was wrong while talking about the latest episode of the series. Kardashian.
In the episode, Kim was visiting Kourtney when she mentioned how someone apparently attacked her. Courtney seemed genuinely surprised to hear this. “I’ve never heard of it,” she said, before asking, “Were you attacked?”
“Yeah, I had to change all my cars because I couldn't drive and I didn't want my kids to think something was weird,” Kim shared, adding that she eventually came to the conclusion that it was a scam. “We are almost sure that this person [in prison] just wanted to be in good standing with me while behind bars. Or maybe it was a conversation. Like, “How much will it cost?” or “How do we do this?” We have no idea.”
Instead of continuing what she said, Courtney changed the subject completely.
“Wait, have you ever had a date with butter inside and sea salt? It's a really good snack,” she said, to which Kim replied, “No. But thank you for really encouraging this deep conversation.”
Kourtney later explained that she interrupted Kim because she was “bored.”
“I’m so bored talking about everyone and their things,” she said in a confessional. “I just don't want to be rude, but I think it's when you're kind of a new mom and you have a younger child… I just feel like I don't relate to any of you and I just want to go home.”
Many online thought Courtney's reaction was cold. “Even for Kourtney it was cold-blooded,” one person said, while another called her “insufferable.”
The headlines also mostly focus on Kourtney's response to Kim's mention of the punch, but the full context reveals what happened beforehand.
At the beginning of the clip, Kim came to see the renovation of Kourtney's house. The two were seen briefly discussing plans, with Kourtney excitedly demonstrating the performance, when Kim interrupted them to share the stress she was facing.
“Oh my God,” she said, “I just had a Prenuvo scan and they’re like, ‘Everything looks great, but you have an aneurysm in your brain,’ and they’re like it’s been there for years.”
She explained that stress can lead to her breakup and talked about all the stress she's been through, from the Met Gala to her robbery trial in Paris to studying for the bar exam.
Kourtney listened and engaged, but when the call ended, she went back to showing off Kim's designs before being interrupted by a notification on Kim's phone.
“Do you like it?” She asked as a distracted Kim tapped on the phone.
“It’s so hard for you to concentrate,” Courtney said. Kim snapped, “I know, I have a lot of crap. This is my only day off from school a week.”
“Well, that’s my one hour,” Kourtney replied, causing Kim to say, “I don’t even have time to do that for my own house.
Apparently still trying to defend her inattention, Kim cited the stroke as another stressor in her life, leading to the previous conversation above.
In this context people thought Kim was rude, which may explain Courtney's reaction.
