Kim Kardashian has become a household name since becoming a reality TV star, but she has just revealed the origin of her famous nickname.
In a new interview with the magazine TimeThe 45-year-old revealed she changed her name slightly before her family appeared on E! “Keeping Up with the Kardashians” in 2007.
“I used to always go by the name Kimberly until we signed up for the reality show,” she said.
The All Fair star said she was inspired to shorten her name after seeing how it looked on screen.
“And when I looked at my chyron, Kimberly Kardashian, I said, 'I think people can talk too long.' And like, 'Let's shorten it to Kim,'” she said.
Even though Kardashian decided to use her nickname, she still had to get used to seeing it on screen.
“And it's so weird because all my friends from high school and childhood and my dad, they all call me Kimberly,” she said.
Fans of Keeping Up With the Kardashians, which aired on E! until 2021 heard members of the Kardashian family repeatedly call her “Kimberly” throughout the series. The family now has a series on Hulu called “The Kardashians.”
During an interview with Time, Kardashian opened up about how filming the reality show helped her explore her “entrepreneurial” side.
“I mean, the whole reason we wanted to start our show was to bring attention to our Dash store – at least that's how I managed to get my sisters to sign up for it. I let them know that, you know, it would bring so much promotion to our store. And they were there as soon as they heard it,” she said.
When asked if she is ultimately responsible for her family's reality show, Kardashian gave the following answer.
“I think I was the one who convinced everyone for sure. I really wanted it. I've really wanted to do a reality show since the day The Real World came out on MTV.” came out and I watched it with my best friend,” she said.
Kardashian, who now has her own workshop, explained that it is “extremely important” to her to be taken seriously as an entrepreneur.
“This is really where I started. I worked in my dad's office, ran my own little eBay business, did closet organizing, made hair accessories and sold them at Fred Segal. I did so much before I started the entrepreneurial TV show,” she said.
