This may be the first Halloween without Ozzy, but the Osbournes remember the late rocker fondly. On Friday, Kelly Osbourne shared a silly video of her two-year-old son Sydney biting off the head of a stuffed bat (like grandpa used to do!) and giggling.
“Learned from the greatest, dad!” Kelly captioned the post, which she included with the Crazy Train soundtrack.
Of course, the infamous bat incident occurred during one of Ozzy's solo performances in 1982. During a segment of the show where Ozzy threw raw meat into the crowd, fans began throwing back everything they had managed to carry. One night in Des Moines, someone threw a bat onto the stage. Believing it was made of rubber, Ozzy picked it up and took a bite, only to discover it was real. This moment attracted massive media attention and led him to receive a series of rabies vaccinations. “It got to the point where people expected me to do crazier and crazier things.” Ozzy once said. “I'll tell you what, guys: It's no fun when you get rabies shots.”
Stuffed animal in Kelly's video actually sold on Ozzy's official website for $40 to honor “a legendary moment in rock history.”
In the comments on Kelly's TikTok, fans made collages of little Sydney and Ozzy, calling them twins. (Kelly even shared some comparisons on Instagram Stories.) “He looks like him,” one fan wrote. “He is being reborn,” wrote another. “I know he saw it and is laughing from heaven,” added a third.
Ozzy died at the end of July at the age of 76, but said People he knew years before that the bat incident would become part of his legacy after his death. “I mean, I've accomplished quite a lot in my life, but all people do is ask, 'Ozzy, what do bats really taste like?' Are they dead?” he told the publication. “But I’ll tell you what: when I got the rabies vaccine, I didn’t smile.”
Kelly was open about dealing with grief after Ozzy's passing. Over the weekend, she reflected on how she experienced her “first birthday without her dad,” sharing a carousel of photos of her and Ozzy, as well as some birthday cards he wrote her. “Every year, the thing I looked forward to the most was spending the day with him and the cards he would write for me,” she wrote. “Knowing that I will never have it again breaks my heart.”
