At the premiere of his new film Good luck tonight, Keanu Reeves remembered him Something has to give co-star Diane KeatonWHO died last weekas an “absolute professional”.
Reeves said AND! News on the red carpet: “She was very nice to me. A generous artist and a special, unique person.”
He continued, “It was great to see her and Jack Nicholson together. Just with their history together and the tenderness and love they had for each other. It was really cool.”
When the film came out in 2003, Reeves was 36 and Keaton was 57. While she and Reeves had real on-screen chemistry, her character ultimately proved more age-appropriate than Jack Nicholson's Harry.
The fans have thought for a long time about an alternate ending in which Keaton's character chooses Reeves. In fact, when the duo introduced themselves at the 2020 Oscars, the chemistry was still there. Meyers herself later wrote: “Wow, maybe they really did end up together.”
The director today recalled Keaton's performance in the film.
“When I needed her to cry, scene after scene, Something has to give she tried her best and then somehow made it funny,” Meyers. wrote. “And I remember how she would sometimes spin in some stupid circle before a take to deliberately throw herself off balance or whatever she needed to lose so she could be in the moment. She was fearless, she was like no one else, she was born to be a movie star.”
