During MTV Video Music Awards back in September Katseye was clearly puzzled when asked to name his favorite Mariah Carey music video. Now the girl group is using a viral red carpet moment as Halloween Costume Inspiration.
On Tuesday, Katseye shared a video of each member donning iconic looks from Carey's music videos from different eras. “All I want for Halloween is… Gabriela @billboard is this the answer to your question about our favorite music video @mariahcarey?” the group wrote on Instagram.
The video begins with Bowen Yang playing a red carpet host who asks each of the girls what their favorite Carey video is. First up is Daniela, roller skating and repeating Carey's song: “Fantasy” look. Next up is Lara, singing along to “Obsessed” and perfectly matching the Grammy winner's outfit. Next comes Sofia in all white, reminiscent of the “Honey” era. Following her is Manon in a wedding dress inspired by “We Belong Together.”
Finally, Yunchae appears in a festive Christmas look straight out of “All I Want for Christmas Is You” as the fake snow begins to fall. Megan brings up the rear, dressed in an outfit reminiscent of Carey's “Heartbreaker,” as Ian addresses Carey's alter ego “Bianca” from the video, reminiscent of the “Gabriela” that Catsy sings about in their song of the same name.
After each era is demonstrated, the girls, dressed in costumes, begin the performance of “Gabriela”. Rainbow– inspired outfits.
“This is too cute!” Carey says in a cameo at the end of the video. “It's Catsy!”
A voiceover asks, “Do you know them?” (Yes, this is a reference to J.Lo's moment.)
“Of course my daughter loves them. Hello?” Carey replies.
The girls also shared on Instagram more clips with their outfits, including one in Rainbow watch, using audio, where someone is asked, “What do you want to say to gay people?” before the girls exclaim, “We love gays!”
The new Halloween visual comes just months after the band released their second EP. Beautiful chaoswhich included “Gabriela,” “Gnarly,” and “Mean Girls.” They also released a remix of “Gabriela“, featuring Young Miko.
“This is us entering adulthood,” Lara said earlier. Rolling Stone about ER. “I feel like we've become a lot more genuine in this era. I don't have to pretend anymore when I talk to anyone. I think that's a beautiful thing and you can see more of that on the album. You see more of our fire.”
