Movie tells the story of a young Palestinian girl, Hind Rajab, who was killed by Israeli forces in the Gaza Strip last year along with six members of her family.
Rajab and her family fled Gaza City when their car came under fire, killing her uncle, aunt and three cousins. Rajab and another cousin initially survived and contacted the Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS) by phone from their car seeking help. Later, the car was found along with Rajab and the doctors who came to the aid of all the dead. The incident sparked global protests, including at Columbia University, where students renamed Hamilton Hall Hinds Hall.
The film, which includes the actual audio recording of Hind Rajab before her death, has attracted several high-profile supporters, including Brad Pitt, Joaquin Phoenix, Rooney MaraAlfonso Cuaron and Jonathan Glaser.
Deadline's Damon Wise from Venice called it a “vital” film: “Kaouther Ben Haniapowerful hybrid document Voice of Hind Rajab “could be the lightning rod supporters of the Gaza cause have been waiting for, an urgent procedural that uses cinematic means – close-up shots and a camera that stalks around like an expectant father – to get its point across.”
