Judy Owen, Paul Friesen inducted into media wing of Canadian Football Hall of Fame – Brandon Sun

WINNIPEG — Longtime The Canadian Press contributor Judy Owen and Winnipeg Sun columnist Paul Friesen were inducted into the media wing of the Canadian Football Hall of Fame on Sunday.

Both were officially memorialized during Canada's annual Soccer Reporters Gray Cup breakfast.

Owen has covered a variety of sports, including football, for The Canadian Press since 2002. After working as assistant city editor of the Winnipeg Sun in 1991, Owen joined the newspaper's sports desk a year later.

Owen became a reporter for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in 1997, a rare accomplishment for a female sports reporter in Canada at the time.

Friesen's tenure with the Winnipeg Sun began in 1997 and he became a columnist in 2001.

The veteran journalist has long covered both the Blue Bombers and the CFL, but has also provided the Sun with first-hand reports from the Olympic and Pan American Games, as well as championships in curling, hockey (NHL and world stage) and golf.

This report by The Canadian Press was first published Nov. 16, 2025.
