Judas Creator Sheds New Light On The Game’s Main Character And Setting

Ken Levine Judas has been in development for a very long time, and this will be his first major project since the Burial At Sea DLC for BioShock Infinite in 2014. Some of the gameplay elements we saw in Judas are very reminiscent of BioShock's interface. But Levine says his team isn't looking at the game as a first-person shooter. Instead, he called it a “Judas simulator” since the main character is named Judas.

“Judas…understands machines in a way that she can never understand humans,” Levin wrote on the developer’s blog. on the official PlayStation website. “It became her greatest strength… and her greatest weakness. We put her in a sci-fi world, a colony ship filled with robots—a futuristic setting that makes someone like her extremely powerful. But this is also a world where personal success depends on how well you can obey the rules, because disagreement will lead to mission failure. This makes her a criminal, an outcast – a Judas. first-person shooter and started calling it “Judas Simulator”. It all comes down to that basic idea that you interact with the world as Judas.”

Levine noted that Judas doesn't like other people very much, but the game's plot forces her to choose between three different leaders on a space colony ship called the Mayflower. Players' choices in the role of Judas will determine which of the three will call her an ally, while the others will condemn her as an enemy.

Judas was previously described as procedurally generated roguelike The action takes place in a dynamically changing open world. This open world is The Mayflower, and Levine noted that it is also dynamic in the game, and design elements will be placed based on the choices made by the player.

“When assembling layouts in a game, the system must understand the different groups of puzzle pieces and the hierarchy of content so that it can connect them together in a meaningful way that supports the narrative,” writes lead artist Karen Seegars. “More exclusive and luxurious venues may have high ceilings, giant windows and large lobbies. The hell to get to them is to separate these spaces both visually and physically.”

Levin stated that Judas will buck modern gaming trends, excluding live service elements from the game. He also demonstrated how players will make friends and enemies among the three main characters.

Judas does not currently have a release date.
