It was announced today that Joni Mitchell and Nelly Furtado will be honored at the 55th Juno Awards, which will take place next March in Hamilton, Ontario.

At the recently opened TD Coliseum in Hamilton, the Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (CARAS) and the CBC announced that Mitchell will receive the National Arts Center's Award of Excellence and Furtado will be inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame.

Mitchell, a four-time Juno Award winner, is recognized for her innovative, decades-long career and influence on music culture around the world. In 1981, she was inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame.

Furtado's induction into the Hall of Fame will celebrate her chart success over the years, her numerous Juno, Grammy and Latin Grammy wins, and her influence on pop music since the early 2000s.

Furtado joins recent inductees Sum 41, Maestro Fresh Wes, Nickelback, Deborah Cox and Jann Arden.

The Youngsters return to Hamilton for the first time in a decade, and hometown heroes Arkells will grace the stage. Toronto band The Beaches will also perform. Both bands are Juno mainstays: Arkells have won nine Junos (six for Group of the Year) since 2010, and The Beaches have won all five awards they've been nominated for since 2018.

“Hamilton has always been a city that lives and breathes music,” said CARAS President and CEO Allan Reed. He continued: “Coming back here with an incredible lineup that includes Joni Mitchell and Nelly Furtado—two of Canada's most influential artists—is a fitting way to celebrate our country's rich musical heritage.”

It was also announced that Junos and MusiCounts are teaming up for a special industry exchange, pairing 10 music educators with 10 local Hamilton musicians to create community and hands-on learning opportunities.
