John Beecher in the waivers: Kent Hughes must (absolutely) consider claiming him

The Canadiens don't have the most depth at center.

Alex Newhook was hurt there… and so was Kirby Dach.

Even though the big right-hander has played primarily on the wing since the start of the season, losing him for at least four weeks isn't ideal. However, there may be one person who could help the club right now…

The Bruins released John Beecher today. We're talking about a 24-year-old first-round draft pick (2019) who never made it in the National League. He is known for his physical play and intensity on the ice.

At 6-foot-3 and 220 pounds, he has the physical strength to attract the interest of a team like the Habs, who are looking for solutions to reduce player attrition.

And with a 54.6% efficiency in the faceoff circle this season, Beecher has what it takes to help the Habs in a depth role. Especially considering that there are so many trauma centers there now…

Will Beecher come to Montreal as a real savior? Of course not.

We're talking about a guy who has just one goal (and one point) in six games this season and a total of 22 points in 136 National League games.

But the risk won't be huge since the player's contract expires at the end of the campaign… and his annual salary is $900,000. Again, this could be an interesting gamble if he doesn't cost much and his contract doesn't hurt in the long run.

I wouldn't be surprised if such a move happens (even if it's not exactly an Alexandre Carrier-style move).

Because this possibility is still intriguing. However, I also have a feeling that Bleacher may no longer be around to have a say in the Canadiens…

After a while

– Yes.

– Good.

– Things are not going very well in Toronto.
