Jesse Eisenberg accidentally revealed that he was donating a kidney to a stranger in December, and the way he casually mentioned it went viral on social media.
For reference: the actor and his Now you see me: now you don't co-stars were on Today show on Thursday, and host Craig Melvin brought up the fact that Jesse attended a blood drive that NBC recently held.
“Oh yeah, that’s true, I did it here,” Jesse replied. “I’m actually donating my kidney in six weeks, really.”
As Craig and the other hosts expressed their surprise and delight, Jesse continued, “I don't know why. It's like I've been bitten by a blood donating infection. I love it.”
“I didn’t expect this!” Craig admitted, going on to explain, that he just wanted to mention how impressed the blood drive staff were with Jesse's surprise appearance – and how he even helped set up the tables and chairs for the event.
“I just have so much blood in me and I feel like I have to spill it,” Jesse responded jokingly. “Yes, yes, yes, I really like doing this, I don’t even know why.”
In a separate interview with Today.comJesse said of his kidney donation: “It's practically safe and therefore necessary. I think people will understand that it's not difficult if you have the time and the desire.”
In addition to praising Jesse for his kind gesture, social media users were surprised by how casually he spoke about it, especially the way he said, “I don't know why.”
