Narrowing down your list of bridesmaids for your wedding can be difficult. Just ask Jenna Bush Hager.
While chatting with guest co-host Leslie Bibb about weddings on November 14, Jenna admitted that she had quite a few friends who stood up for her when she married Henry Hager in 2008.
“How many bridesmaids did you have at your wedding?” asked Bibb.
“Too much,” Jenna replied.
“How many?” – Bibb repeated and playfully raised her voice.
“Too much,” Jenna repeated.
“How much is too much?” asked Bibb.
After explaining that she only asked her twin sister. Barbara Pierce Bush To stand with her at the altar, Jenna revealed that she had 19 bridesmaids in total.
Bibb's jaw dropped in shock. Other people in Studio 1A were also surprised by Jenna's answer.
“Don't judge! Look at everyone's faces. It’s a room full of shame,” Jenna said.
“It’s not a disgrace,” Bibb began.
“It's disgusting. I can see the disgust on your face,” Jenna said to the room.
Bibb still couldn't come to terms with it and said, “I don't think I've ever known anyone who had (that many bridesmaids).”
“Oh, look at Ashley. Everyone shames me, both Ashleys. Okay, I know,” Jenna said.
Bibb was curious to know if all of Jenna's bridesmaids were wearing the same thing. She said they wore “color coordinated” clothes.
“I let them choose their style. I let them do everything,” Jenna said.
The mother of three said she was simply discussing bridesmaid dresses with her 12-year-old daughter. Mila the other day.
“In my bathroom there are various sketches of fashion designers. Oscar de la Renta made my wedding dress and he drew the design, so I have it. But I do have fabric bridesmaid dresses. And Mila says, “Did you make them all wear that?” And I was like, “Yes.” And she was like, 'It's a choice,'” Jenna said.
Jenna, who celebrated her 17th wedding anniversary in May 2025, has shared some details from her big day over the years, including Bible verses her grandparents read at the ceremony.
In 2021 Jenna will also told about a pleasant moment she shared that day with her father, George W. Bush.
“I think my dad picked me up in a pickup truck, in his pickup truck, and he said, 'You look beautiful, baby,' and then we both just started crying,” she said on TODAY with Hoda and Jenna.
