«Je n’ai jamais donné l’impression à mon entourage que j’allais me rendre loin dans la vie»: Philippe Laprise annonce son cinquième spectacle, «Au sommet»

“I realized that in 2026 I will be 50 years old, and I will have a 25-year career. It seems to me that all the peaks of my life have been achieved.” Philippe Laprise wanted to leave Upstairs with the fifth solo exhibition of his career, which he will officially launch next spring.

It's time to sum up Philippe Laprise. As he realized that 2026 would mark two major milestones for him, the comedian thought back to his youth when his future seemed less rosy.

“Neither those around me nor the teachers I met gave me the impression that I was going to go far in life,” he says.

Having at that time undiagnosed attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), young Philip repeated the classes three times. “I had behavior problems. No one seemed to speak the same language as me.”

Black sheep in the family

With a brother who was an accountant, a sister who was a teacher, and another brother who was an occupational therapist who almost went into medicine, Philip often felt like the black sheep of his family. “I was late at everything. When I was young, I was more of a pile of trouble than a guy who was going to succeed.”

To help him later, his parents and brother even found an unexpected Plan B for him. “They admitted it to me a year and a half ago,” says Philip, who will reveal the details of this unexpected alternative solution in his new solo exhibition.

I still think we'll touch on this because Get me out of here! this is one of those changes in my life where i decided to put myself in danger and shake up all the shit i had inside. Everything changed with the help of drugs

The comedian, who has always been involved in the fight against ADHD with the Philippe Laprise Foundation, admits that his life changed in 2015 when he began taking medication for his disorder. “It gave me the opportunity to be more focused and work better as a team,” he said. […] On a human level, with my kids and my girlfriend, I am much less impulsive and hyperactive.

He noted that creating his show became easier because he was on medication. “I'm much more efficient than before. When I have an idea, I can write it down on a piece of paper so I don't forget. It's also easier to study my writing using the notes the authors give me.”
