Jason Miyares Goes for the Finishing Maneuver After Latest Revelations About Jay Jones – RedState

The race for attorney general in Virginia was certainly not a race that anyone could have predicted would unfold as quickly as it did and as quickly as Election Day approaches.

We documented how Democratic candidate Jay Jones became mired in scandals of his own making. fantasized about the murder of a former GOP colleague in the House of Delegates, as well as the death of that man's children.

The other came to light just days before news of the texts broke during a preliminary investigation into whether Jones fulfilled his community service obligations after being convicted of careless driving in 2022, now adding a whole new layer to Jones's campaign woes.

Jones was caught in January 2022 on I-64 going 116 mph. The speed limit is 70 mph. After he was found guilty of careless driving, his lawyer was able to negotiate an agreement where he would perform community service in lieu of jail time.

Jones paid a $1,500 fine and was sentenced by a judge to 1,000 hours of community service. 500 of these hours were completed in conjunction with the Virginia NAACP. The remaining 500 hours, however, were spent with Jones's own PAC, Meet the Moment, with Jones to date not commenting on what exactly he did during those 500 hours.

The discovery that he performed part of his community service for an organization that was not classified as a nonprofit and was not non-political prompted a New Kent County Circuit Court judge to appoint a special prosecutor to investigate the case, as RedState's Teri Kristof previously detailed.

GOP Attorney General Jason Miyares reacted to the news with a final maneuver, noting that there was no way Jones could effectively serve as attorney general if he was under criminal investigation:

The scandals and Jones' pathetic responses to them, as well as Miyares smoking him during the debate, forced Miyares go forward in all post-scandal polls conducted, including the latest one, VCU surveywhich shows him a three-point lead.

Of course, anything can happen, but if the current numbers are a reliable indicator, it looks like Jones will be defeated a second time (the first was in the 2021 attorney general primary) in his bid for attorney general, thanks in part to his apparent belief in Democratic privilege and that he is somehow above the law.
