The Jake Evans case has been pretty murky over the past few days. The center forward left the team for “personal reasons.”
Except what did it unclear The fact is that Luc Gelinas, in turn, mentioned that the striker was injured. According to his information, he went to see a doctor in Philadelphia on Thursday.
Injury, personal absence, or both? It was all very unique.
And today Martin Saint-Louis was asked about this. And the coach made it clear: Evans is not suffering from an injury.
So he opted for the official version of the club, and it makes sense.
St. Louis clarified that Evans was not injured.

Of course, it's entirely possible that the coach is saying all this protect his player. After all, to say out loud that a player is injured when he returns to the lineup tonight wouldn't do him any good.
And perhaps the coach is also completely honest. But there's reason to believe he might not be talking all admittedly to protect their player (and the team, which never cited injury to explain Evans' absence).
Either way, having Evans back is good for the Habs, who will be getting back one of their big men on the penalty kill and one of the guys who will help the club. There is difficult moments.
First and foremost, it will require some pressure from Nick Suzuki, who has played a monstrous amount of minutes in Evans' absence. Given the sequence of two games in two nights, it would be very interesting if he played that much.
So we'll see what Evans can do tonight, but my impression is that St. Louis is happy to have him back. And Suzuki can't be too unhappy either, hehe.
