The start of the 2025-26 Memphis Grizzlies season hasn't lived up to expectations—at least if you ask. Ja Morant.
Lost in the NBA Cup by the team Los Angeles Lakers left Morant visibly frustrated with the Grizzlies coaching staff. “Go ask the coaching staff,” the two-time NBA All-Star answered questions several times in the locker room about his performance in the 117-112 loss.
On Saturday, ESPN reports this. Morant was “suspended for one game for conduct detrimental to the team.”

The breach of discipline came to light less than 24 hours after Morant openly criticized the team and coaches.
When asked Friday about what Memphis could have done differently after the loss to the Lakers, a visibly irritated Morant responded: “In their opinion, maybe don't play me, honestly. This was the main message. This is great”.
Fox News Digital reached out to the Grizzlies for comment but did not immediately receive a response.
Morant finished Friday's game with eight points, the fewest among Grizzlies starters. Jaylen Wells led the team with 16 points.

Friday's loss dropped the Grizzlies to 3-3.

The defeat and Morant's poor shooting performance were compounded by his slower pace and lower energy levels than many have become accustomed to since his rise to NBA stardom.
The Grizzlies front office decided to make a coaching change after the team lost 4-0 to the eventual NBA champions in the first round. Oklahoma City Thunder.
