I was overacting The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt this month as my Christmas game, and this time it turned out to be just as excellent, if not better, after almost a decade of not even loading.
The 200+ hours I spent on the game PS4 had almost faded into the background, and this was as fresh as any return to a beloved game could be. It was a pleasure to wander through the landscapes of Skellige, taking in the atmosphere, the weather and the music; It's heartbreaking to go through quests like the one with the Bloody Baron again; and it's darkly satisfying to be immersed in the misery of the ongoing war and the politics surrounding it.
This is such a game-changing and measurably effective ability that I'm already hoping (and maybe even assuming) that Ciri has it. The Witcher 4no matter how important it was for my Geralt in his final adventure. Let me explain.
Change your mind
I almost certainly missed this ability on my first playthrough 10 years ago because I was so focused on making Geralt a damage-heavy tank that I kept missing the signs overall. Add to that the fact that delusion isn't really that useful in combat, and I probably put it aside for another skill that gave me more attack power.
What's definitely clear is that using a full-fledged fallacy from the very beginning of the game changes so many outcomes, conversations, and series of events – I have a reliable memory, and I know for a fact that I didn't have all of these conversations or events on my first playthrough.
What's even more confusing that I haven't used it before is that it can be a skill that can be set and forgotten – and given the way The Witcher 3 The user interface is there, I prefer to strive for it as a whole rather than constantly changing something. Is not nobody got time for that. You could even (probably) leave it active with just one point, at least for a while, if you need other points elsewhere.
This is an extremely useful ability in that same vein. This can help you avoid a whole bunch of unnecessary bloodshed, fighting and, well, death that, frankly, life on the Continent and Skellige could do without. This suits Geralt very well, who is more of a lover than a fighter, and can really help you avoid having to draw your sword as often. Besides, I'm older and less hot-headed now than I was 10 years ago, and I like to think that my Geralt is too.
This helped me get a lot of extra experience points in the game faster and earlier: every time you use it in a conversation (even if it was unsuccessful), you get 40 experience points when fully upgraded. So this has practical implications for progression, but also for storytelling and even your Geralt's mood and attitude towards problem solving.
The Power of Persuasion
I know this isn't a groundbreaking thing at all – it's actually a pretty simple in-game thing that's also core. witcher skill; Ciri simply must have this with her. The Witcher 4and, you know what, she will definitely do it. Certainly.
I really want to see Ciri poetically waving her hand at angry peasants, or arrogant and stubborn nobles who don't see the point, or angry people who just give away a bag of coins with a weird hand gesture. I imagine this will at least be used for Ciri in the same way. The Witcher 4 – similar to The Witcher 3 – but I hope it can find more practical use in combat. Perhaps a more powerful and effective means of making enemies attack their own.
However, in preparation for The Witcher 4it's another little thing I'm thrilled to discover all these years later in one of the best games ever made, and it added another mile an hour or two to my hype train.
