Inside Health – The Revolution in Cystic Fibrosis Care That is Changing Lives

In stock for over a year

In 1964, the future of children born with cystic fibrosis was bleak: most of them had their lives cut tragically short. Today, the majority of people living with CF in the UK are adults, reflecting remarkable advances in medicine. We meet Annabelle, who lives with cystic fibrosis and once thought she might not live to see her 18th birthday. And we hear from Dr Imogen Felton, a respiratory consultant at the Royal Brompton Hospital specializing in cystic fibrosis, who tells us about the treatments crucial to this extended prognosis. The EDITH (Early Detection Using Information Technology in Health) study is testing how AI can help radiologists identify breast cancer at an earlier stage, changing the future of diagnostics. We speak to Professor Sian Taylor-Phillips, Professor of Public Health at the University of Warwick and co-principal investigator of the study. In 2024, participation in running clubs across the UK increased by 64%. But does running in a group lead to improved performance? To find out, James goes for a run in Hyde Park with running club Monday Mood Booster and talks to Arran Davies, a research fellow at the University of Oxford who is researching the links between social interaction and physical activity. Host: James Gallagher Producers: Debbie Kilbride, Minnie Harrop and Tom Bonnett Editor: Ilan Goodman Production Coordinator: Ishmael Soriano This episode was produced in collaboration with the Open University.
