I think you could pay me to go to the moon. I'm glad Mr. Armstrong and Buzz Lightyear had a good time there, but this place is scary! It's just a massive dark stone! But in case Dark Moonupcoming survival strategy game that just came out with a release date, this darkness is your friend because if you want to survive on the moon, you need to protect yourself from that hot, hot ball in the sky called the sun.
In Dark Moon, your goal is simple: stay out of the path of the sun. This is a world where the sun's rays will burn you to ashes, so you need to constantly move to make sure you're on the dark side of the moon (the scariest side and potentially the best album cover ever). So the story goes: You are a member of the Engineering Council, tasked with managing the construction of a mining system on the Moon, which is completely destroyed after a solar storm hits the Earth, destroying all electronics and leaving you without any form of communication.
To get around on the moon, you have a big old spider-like machine called a Mechaplex that serves as your main base of operations. Each passage is assumed to be nonlinear; As you travel across the Moon, you may encounter survivors who want to join you (who may not have your best interests at heart), or you may need to collect minerals to better survive.
You can also use the Mechaplex to improve your team's abilities or make travel methods easier and faster. Sometimes you may have to make difficult choices related to said team, whose members may react positively or negatively depending on who you let into the Mechaplex and who you leave behind. A bit of a nightmare scenario to be honest! It's better if it was a video game and not my life experience.
Oh, and that release date! It arrives on October 29th, so there are only a few weeks left. It feels seasonal, even if I don't know if I can handle it because of the existential dread. It might be worth adding to your steam wishlist if that tickles your fancy though.
