Nazem Kadri's name has been circulating (to some extent) in Montreal for several years now. A center fielder who grew up a Habs fan would fill many of the city's needs.
And in Calgary, where the club is seriously shopping him, trading him before his value dries up could be interesting.
For timeHowever, the Flames are not interested in trading him. However, there are rumors that The Habs are not among the 13 teams Kadri would turn down in a trade..
and Elliot Friedman, who was on Morning hockey cup this morninginsisted that the Habs would actively seek the best available center for his club. And he mentioned this about Kadri:
If Nazem Kadri becomes available, Montreal would be very high on the list. Montreal has what Calgary would like. — Elliott Friedman
Friedman notes that Kadri is undoubtedly the most talked about name in Montreal right now. Considering the Penguins are off to a good start this season (which makes Sidney Crosby a tougher option), concentrate now it seems to be Kadri.
Kadri has a contract for this and the next three seasons worth $7 million per year. Given the exploding salary cap, this salary is easy to stomach… even if Kadri is already 35.
Because despite everything, he's still productive, with 10 points in 14 games this season. And he would fit well into the center of Ivan Demidov.
Obviously, the question is what the Habs would have to give up in a trade. You'd think there would be potential players and/or picks involved…but I wonder if the Flames would be interested in a guy like Alex Newhook having a good time.
Kent Hughes will probably want to keep him… but at the same time, Newhook's value may never be as high as it is now. as noted by JiC in a material for TVA Sports. This could be a way for the club to pursue Kadri without emptying their prospect bank.

We'll see how this all turns out, but Kadri seems to be a very, very popular name in Montreal right now.
We'll see if the Flames want to trade him now.

– Speaking of center players who could move.
Teams have already contacted St. Louis regarding Brayden Schenn's availability. If the Blues aren't in contention by December, @TheFourthPeriod says their captain could be a valuable trading chip.
