I Tried Taylor Swift’s Posture-Correcting Sports Bra

I like to think that Taylor Swift and I have a lot in common, but perhaps our biggest similarity is our height and therefore our posture. Swift is 5'10″ or 5'11″ depending on who you ask, and as a tall girl, I know all too well the temptation to plummet. I suspect my own habit of slumping my shoulders began in high school, when I towered over all my peers and desperately wanted to minimize my height among the (often shorter) boys I had crushes on. If only I had known about all the ways the “short royal summer” would manifest itself in my life later!

Swift was also often photographed with her neck and shoulders rounded forward. Is this a method she uses to hide from the paparazzi? Maybe. A natural progression for a man who spends his entire life hunched over a piano? May be. Or, as some Swifties claim, is it a result of her carrying the entire music industry on her shoulders? Almost certainly.

But Swift may have had a mission correct her postureor at least get a little extra support during her grueling physical efforts. Eras Tour. The pop star was photographed in Shape Strength Good ($142, originally $178) at tour rehearsals, as shown in her Time Person of the Year interview. According to Forme's website, the so-called “posture correcting bra” is “designed to immediately improve your upper body alignment and body foundation.”

Although I usually doubt the effectiveness of this kind products for posture correctionSwift looks stronger and taller than she has in years. Although perhaps it's just the confidence that comes with becoming a true cultural giant? Anyway, I decided to try out the T. Swift approved good at sports for myself and described in detail my experience of using posture corrector below.

How does this posture correcting sports bra work?

Forme's Power Bra design has a method behind it – so much so that it's even FDA registered. (To be clear, this does not mean it is FDA approved—just that the product may be considered a medical device.) According to the brand, the product was developed by an orthopedic surgeon with the intention of helping his mother cope with pain caused by compressed lungs and poor posture due to cancer. It uses stretch fabrics and dual fabric panels that apply pressure to key areas of your body, encouraging you to keep your shoulders back and down.

While this style boasts a unique design, I found it to be similar to a traditional sports bra. The compressive material hugs my body without being too constricting or impeding my mobility. It's also surprisingly breathable – I can wear the bra comfortably under clothes. workout top or head to the gym and feel just as confident wearing this piece on its own. The sports bra's mesh, spandex-like material also prevents sweat from accumulating; wearing it made me feel cool even during the most intense workouts.

What I love about this posture correcting sports bra

Even though I've only been wearing this bra for about a month, I feel like I've noticed a real improvement in my everyday posture, even when I'm not wearing a sports bra—and I suspect my posture will likely only improve with more wear. The bra is easy to put on, it fits like a glove, while maintaining freedom of arm movement.

I also appreciate that this style not only gives you a little boost to stand up straight, but also works just as well as a regular sports bra. Its wireless design is extremely comfortable and has a compressive nature that helps keep everything together without the fear of slipping during an intense workout or yoga session.

It's hard to quantify, but I suspect the bra has helped improve the quality of my workouts, especially my yoga or back exercises. Because this style is designed to promote good posture, I feel comfortable putting more energy into the stretches and repetitions; I'm not so worried about finding bad form.

Points to note

This posture correcting sports bra is just that: a sports bra. Although it claims to help improve posture, it is by no means a panacea for poor posture. If you're looking for a real cure for back pain, or even want to get professional help for an ingrained slouching habit, you're probably best off seeing a doctor to discuss your individual case and ask about helpful exercises and treatments such as physical therapy. You may also be wondering if such a product would be right for you.

Who is this posture correcting sports bra best for?

If you need extra back support while working out, this bra is a worthwhile investment. Although the price is higher than regular sports bras, in my opinion, the price is worth it. I have personally noticed an improvement in my posture and love the added confidence it gives me during my regular workouts. Even if you're not interested in the style's supposed posture-correcting benefits, it works great as a standalone sports bra. It is made from high quality materials and I am sure it will last a long time.
