Earlier this year Hightail was canceled after ten years of development and the studio behind it, Hypixel, was also slated to close. Hypixel co-founder Simon Collins-Laflamme subsequently revived the company and bought all rights to Hytale from Riot Games. Collins-Laflamme also confirmed his intention to release Hypixel in Early Access. Now we know how much the game will cost.
On social media, Hypixel announced that Hytale will cost 20$. However, there will also be more expensive editions with perks, including cosmetics that fans can purchase to support the team. After confirming the price, Collins-Laflamme noted that the decision puts him at financial risk, as he has already committed to funding his company and funding the game out of his own pocket.
“I'm setting the price for Hytale as low as possible,” Collins-Laflamme wrote on X. “I'm taking a significant personal risk after purchasing the game and preparing it for Early Access for a growing team of 50 talented people. I said I was ready to go all in, and I am keeping that promise. The game is not finished and runs on a build created more than four years ago. My team and I will do our best to achieve success, then it will be great. The vision is clear and progress is rapid.”
Collins-Laflamme added that he wants to attract as many players as possible, even in difficult economic times. Hypixel also published a post detailing how far has the modding feature come. The short answer is that there is still a lot of work to be done. Hytale doesn't currently have a release date, but Collins-Laflamme hinted that the game's Early Access period will begin relatively soon.
