Hypertension Notifications now available on Canadian Apple Watches

Apple Watch's Newest Health Feature finally arrived in Canada so now anyone with a supported watch can use it to make sure they don't have hypertension.

This feature works on Apple Watch Series 9 and later, and Apple Watch Ultra 2 and later. Unfortunately, the new 2025 Apple Watch SE will not have this feature. This should be rolled out later today and then you will be able to turn it on in the Health app.

Apple decided to add this feature to the Apple Watch platform because it says that more than a billion people worldwide have hypertension, and about half of them don't even know it. To test this, Apple Watch can track how your blood vessels react to your heartbeat. It's not a complete blood pressure monitor, but it can look for patterns over a 30-day period, and if it detects bad patterns, it will alert you.

If you receive an alert, the Health app on your phone will ask you to record your blood pressure for seven days using a regular blood pressure cuff. Once this happens, an easy-to-use section will open in the Health app to help you track your measurements. Then, given all this data, the watch/Apple recommends contacting your doctor and asking about additional tests for hypertension.

To get to the bottom of it all, the tech giant tested the feature with 2,000 people who took part in an Apple study. Function combines others Apple Health features like sleep apnea notifications since last year.
