HP’s new keyboard PC wants to replace your desktop setup

HP just introduced a new HP PC with a keyboard CES 2026and it's a surprisingly practical idea. The computer sits inside the keyboard, so you can move the entire setup between desks without lugging around a mini PC or laptop dock.

The device is called HP EliteBoard G1a Next Gen AI PC. HP says it's the world's first computer with full AI built into the keyboard, and it's pitching local AI performance on the device rather than reliance on the cloud as its selling point.

HP also announced the HP Series 7 Pro 4K Monitor as a companion device aimed at people who live on large screens and switch between devices.

A desktop that travels

HP says the EliteBoard G1a is 12mm thick and weighs 750g, and the keyboard has dual microphones and speakers built into it. You bring the keyboard, connect it to any display you can find, and get the desktop experience without the need for a separate tower.

For AI workloads, HP points to AMD Ryzen AI 300 Serial processor and NPU with over 50 TOPS performance, as well as Co-pilot+ PC positioning and registration of EPEAT 2.0 Gold. It also features HP Smart Sense, AMD Auto State Management, and an optional built-in battery that help balance performance, cooling, and power while on the move.

What do you gain and lose?

The obvious advantage is the ease of flexible working. If you work at a desk, work in conference rooms, or split your time between home and office, a keyboard PC can mean fewer drawers and fewer setup steps. Your monitor and peripherals can stay in place while your computer stays with you.

The trade-off is that you still need a screen wherever you go, and HP hasn't yet revealed pricing. Without a price, it's hard to know whether it will replace a small desktop, a business laptop, or a combination of both, especially for hardware-buying groups.

What to see before March

HP says the EliteBoard G1a and Series 7 Pro 4K monitor will be available on their website in March, with pricing closer to launch. That number will decide whether it's a smart tool for real jobs or a neat concept that will remain niche. Check best monitors now if you are looking for a monitor.

Safety is also central to the field. HP integrates HP Wolf Security for Business and advances hardware-based protection for sensitive data and AI workflows, including protection against emerging quantum threats.

If the monitor matters to you, HP says it features IPS Black Performance and Neo LED display technology with 4K resolution, as well as Thunderbolt 4 with up to 140W of power and 40Gbps data transfer speeds in a single cable. Please check the final price and full list of ports before purchasing as these two details will make or break the idea.
