Well, Major League Baseball's (MLB) Toronto Blue Jays didn't stifle Game 7 and beat the Seattle Mariners to head to their first World Series since 1993.
The first game of the Fall Classic between the Blue Jays and the defending champion Los Angeles Dodgers will take place on Friday, October 24th at the Rogers Center here in Toronto.
Blue Jays manager John Schneider announced the news. that rookie Trey Yesavage will get the start for the Jays in Game 1, with his final appearance coming on Sunday, where he pitched six scoreless innings. Yesavage also pitched just over five hitless innings against the New York Yankees in the American League Division Series. With him getting regular rest, the Jays hope to get similar play from Yesavage.
The Dodgers, on the other hand, I'll go with lefty Blake Snell.. His last start was against the Milwaukee Brewers in the National League Championship Series, where he tossed eight scoreless innings and struck out 10 batters while allowing only one hit.
Where to watch
If you are in the western Greater Toronto Area (GTA), Mississauga Party Square (nicknamed “Bird's Nest”) will host a World Series viewing party beginning at 7 p.m., an hour before first pitch. Newmarket is also hosting a similar party at the NewRoads Performing Arts Center with free food (popcorn and pizza).
Another way to watch the game is that most restaurants or bars/pubs will likely also be playing a Blue Jays game, but there will be a lot of people there considering this is the first World Series appearance since 1993.
If you want to avoid the crowds, Canadian viewers can watch the game on Sportsnet, Sportsnet+ or CityTV; however, they will carry the US FOX broadcast (ironic considering Rogers owns both).
Currently, monthly cost for Sportsnet+ is $29.99 CAD or $249.99 CAD per year for an annual plan. However, there is a Premium tier that costs C$42.99 per month or C$349.99 per year with annual payments. Speaking of CityTV, there is also a standard option that bumps the price up to $31.99 CAD per month but gives you access to the CityTV streaming package for additional post-game viewing options.
If you have a satellite TV subscription, you can use your TV provider login to log into the Sportsnet+ app on your mobile phone or streaming device. However, as I mentioned in the ALCS 7 game post, there is a limit to what content you can watch in the app depending on your TV subscription. The app also tends to crash, especially on streaming services, so be prepared if it doesn't load or freezes.
If you'd rather listen to it on the radio, it's available for free on two of Sportsnet's three Vancouver radio stations: 590 The Fan and 650 The Fan. The NHL's Calgary Flames play tomorrow, so 960 The Fan may not be broadcasting it. The game can also be heard on Sirius XM channels 175 (Blue Jays commentators) and 176 (Dodio commentators). If you'd like to subscribe to Sirius XM, Platinum Plan costs $29.99 CAD per month. and allows you broadcast MLB games.
