How I Use the NotebookLM Slide Deck Generator to Study More Easily

Once again, Google has a new feature. LaptopLMartificial intelligence tool that acts as a personal assistant and only the reference materials you provide for it. This is a slide generator that can be useful if you need to get a presentation ready in a hurry, but I use it a little differently to help me retain new information.

Creating slides in NotebookLM

First, you need to know how to build a deck. If you're not familiar with NotebookLM, it's essentially like ChatGPT, but instead of pulling responses from the wider internet, it only relies on PDFs, links, videos, and text that you enter as resources. This makes it an ideal tool for working on a specific project or preparing for a course, since you don't risk accidentally being misled by some random, unrelated source.

You can use a chatbot behave as you would in ChatGPT, asking questions and receiving a summary of your submissions. You can also automatically generate cards, video, infographicsmind maps, fake podcasts and much more.

To create slides, use the same process as to create them: in the left pane, select all the sources you want the tool to pull slides from. In the right pane, select Slide deck from the menu. In a few minutes, you'll receive slides that can be downloaded in PDF format, just as you would download PowerPoint, and you can upload them to Google Slides or PowerPoint to create a simple presentation.

Why I love NotebookLM's slide feature

I've already mentioned that while I love NotebookLM and use it every day for both work and personal purposes, I I can't stand this app. It just doesn't work as well as the browser version, which is a shame because the browser version does. So Fine. I basically ignore the app and don't use NotebookLM on mobile, and when I do, I use the mobile browser to access it, which as we all know is an annoying workaround that never works correctly on a small screen.

However, with the PDF slide, I get a ready-made study guide with visuals that I can send to myself via iMessage and learn on the go. When I create my own study materials without NotebookLM, I almost always do it in Google Slides, then download the full PDF and view the slides like a giant study guide, so this new feature takes care of most of the work.
