The fallout from Jay Jones' text messages, RedState reports. scandal continues to rock the race for attorney general in Virginia, with a new Trafalgar Group poll showing GOP Attorney General Jason Miyares now leading the embattled Democratic challenger by six points after stretchy he's up four points in their previous poll.
There has also been a “ballot boost” effect, with noticeable movements in the governor's race and the lieutenant governor's race, with both races now statistically tied and within the margin of error of the previous Trafalgar poll, which was conducted just days before the scandal broke and before the only gubernatorial debate between Lt. Governor Wince Earl-Sears (R) and Abigail Spanberger (D).
In messages sent by Jones in August 2022, he expressed fantasies of killing then-Virginia House Speaker Todd Gilbert (R) with “two bullets to the head” and of Gilbert's children dying in the arms of his wife Jennifer. Although Jones admitted that he sent them, he denied allegations that he noticed in a telephone conversation that perhaps if several police officers were killed due to the lack of qualified immunity, law enforcement would change their tactics against suspects.

With this in mind, as well as Spanberger's disastrous debate performance, the Virginia Democratic Party is in a panic and is desperately looking for any excuse not to explain why none of them called on Jones to drop out of the race and/or withdrew their support.
In the final few weeks before Election Day, with early voting underway, some have predictably seized on the “something” as a way to try to downplay the seriousness of Jones' remarks.
Among them is Rep. Don Beyer (D-Va.), a former lieutenant governor who served in Congress for 10 years. He made this insulting closing argument for Jones when asked about the lyrics (video from instagram):
“You know, what Jay said was terrible. It's no worse than what Donald Trump says almost every day and what J.D. Vance said when you compare it to other evil things. People make mistakes. I really hope he wins.”
I asked Rep. Beyer about Jay Jones:

Hm. Really? This is interesting. I follow the news every day and have never heard Trump or Vance express a desire to kill their political opposition and watch the children of their Democratic opponents die.
It just didn't happen. However, politically motivated attempts on Trump's life have occurred, as we saw during the 2024 presidential campaign.
For Democrats to resort to playing the “But Trump/Vance” card in light of all this is absolutely pathetic and, as I noted earlier, offensive to Virginia voters, most of whom know the difference between a spirited political spat and wanting to shoot their colleague on the other side of the aisle in the head and watch their young children die in their mother's arms.
One wonders whether Beyer knows deep down that what he claimed about Trump and Vance is not true. Is he sticking with Jones in part because, alarmingly, there are a growing number of Democratic voters who agree with the views expressed by Jones, including, apparently, voters in Virginia, as we've said previously covered?
The disgusting messages we have heard and read from some of them after the murder of Charlie Kirk, in my opinion, this is confirmed. Prove me wrong.
