Note: This post outlines episode 1 IT: Welcome to Derry, but don't worry if you haven't seen it yet! No major spoilers found.
I'm not a horror fan by any means.
However, I am very curious, especially when there is a scary project that everyone is excited about. And let's just say it got me into trouble a few times.
But here I don't learn the lesson again because I was so curious Ono: Welcome to Derry. Would that scare me? Will I have to watch on Sunday morning at 11am? Or will it be a complete nightmare?
Curiosity, of course, won.
Ono: Welcome to Derry takes us to an eerily sleepy town in 1962. At the beginning we meet Matty Clements. He's clearly trying to escape something sinister. But the decision to hitchhike with a seemingly typical family on a road trip turns out to be just too damn bad.
Once his son starts saying words like “necrosis”, Matty knows it's time to go out, but it's too late. He was kidnapped by this extremely perverted family.
The beginning was REALLY important to me, but I needed to know more about Matty. Is he still alive? Is he infamous? This clown? Why did he even run away? Four months after the kidnapping, Matty's friends – Teddy, Lily and Phil – are trying to figure it all out.
Phil, for example, is obsessed with aliens. Lily is just happy to find people who believe she heard Matty talking to her through the pipes in the bathroom. The three, along with Phil's younger sister Susie, set out in search of answers.
This leads them to Ronnie's doorstep in search of answers. Her father is the owner of the local theater where Mattie was last seen and was wrongly accused of kidnapping him. She is unsure whether to trust the other children, but joins them to clear her father's name.
Their investigation begins in the theater, and the demon child kills most of them… in the FIRST episode. So, we immediately understand that no one is safe. And while horror isn't really a jam, the “anything can happen” energy always gets me hooked!
This wild scene even got Twitter talking!
But the children of Derry (or what's left of them) are just a handful of characters that audiences are sure to feel strongly about. In the first episode we also meet Major Hanlon. He heads the Air Force unit that is testing the new B-52.
Judging by the cold reception he receives, it is clear that Major Hanlon will have to deal with the human threats of racism and bias. Needless to say, I will be following this Black supremacy on a weekly basis and seeing how it deals with these everyday threats.
For lovers This franchise, Ono: Welcome to Derry It will be exciting and a must watch. But as for my scaredy cats, know that you will get through this if you wait a long time for the new season. Stranger Things It seems like this will never happen. My advice: watch it in daylight and remember that there's no shame in having to hide under the covers from time to time!
Do you dare? Ono: Welcome to Derry? Let me know what you think in the comments.
Broadcast Ono: Welcome to Derry on HBO Max.
