Horizon Steel Frontier developer wants PlayStation release, but it’s “not something we can decide on our own”

Yesterday when we revealed Horizon Steel Frontiers, there was one big question on everyone's lips. Why isn't it coming out on PlayStation?

After all, Horizon is one of Sony's most successful franchises, with more than 30 million copies sold on PC and PlayStation consoles. But despite this, NCSoft's upcoming MMO Horizon is currently only available for PC and mobile devices. What does it give?

Following the announcement of Horizon Steel Frontiers, executive producer Lee Song shed a little more light on why NCSoft's game isn't coming to PlayStation, suggesting that the platform exclusion was not NCSoft's decision.

The developer of Horizon Steel Frontiers told a Japanese publication 4Gamer that the lack of a PS5 release was “the very reaction of the comments” following the announcement (via machine translation). He added that NCSoft has “no reason” not to bring its game to the PlayStation console.

“We would like to do this,” the developer continued, “but we cannot solve this on our own, so we would like to continue the discussion.”

It has been suggested that this may be Sony's decision not to release the game on PlayStation. Eurogamer has asked Sony for further comment.

Horizon Steel Frontiers is described as a “brutal survival adventure.”in which players take on the role of machine hunters in a region known as the Death Lands. The team promises “massive raids” and an “advanced combat system” in the game's eventual release.

In related news, earlier today the head of Guerrilla Studios celebrated the announcement of Steel Frontiers by stating that the team always envisioned Horizon as a multiplayer game.
