Pulp Fiction the director recently appeared on Bret Easton Ellis Podcast and discussed his favorite films, including Paul Thomas Andersondrama 2007 There Will Be Bloodin which Dano plays Eli Sunday, a rival Daniel Day-LewisDaniel Plainview.
Explaining why the film didn't make it higher on his list: “There Will Be Blood would have a good chance of being number 1 or 2 [on his list of favourites] If only he didn't have a big, giant flaw… and that flaw is Paul Dano,” he continued to diss the actor for his performance in the film and even offered an alternative: “He's weak sauce, man. He is a weak sister… Austin Butler It would be great in this role.”
The director went on to call Dano a “weak, weak, uninteresting guy” and “the weakest male actor in SAG.” [Screen Actors Guild]”
Dano has not yet commented on this issue, but several famous Hollywood stars, including his former colleagues, came to his defense, praising not only the actor's talent, but also his character. Batman director Matt Reevestweeting: “Paul Dano is an incredible actor and an incredible person,” and Ben Stillerwho led Dano in Escape at Dannemorasharing, “Paul Dano is freaking gorgeous.”
Fellow SAG cast members also came to the defense of Dano, a Canadian Marvel actor. Simu Liu simply adding, “I don't know, man, I think Paul Dano is an incredible actor.” Alec Baldwin added his article and wrote on Instagram: “I just want to say I love Paul Dano and if you don't love Paul Dano…shh.”
