Hildeby registers first NHL shutout as Maple Leafs blank Lightning

Jonas Johansson stopped 22 shots for Tampa Bay (16-11-2). The Lightning have lost four games in a row after winning seven straight.

Hildeby, who began the season as the Maple Leafs' fourth goaltender, received another start with Anthony Stolarz and Joseph Wall on injured reserve.

The Lightning had center Brayden Point and forward Nikita Kucherov back in the lineup from injury absences, but they were without No. 1 goaltender Andrei Vasilevskiy. Point missed seven games with an undisclosed injury, and Kucherov missed Saturday's 2-0 home loss to the New York Islanders.

Tampa Bay is shut out of back-to-back games for the first time since November 2023.

Maple Leafs: The NHL's 30th-ranked power play on Monday has fallen to an abysmal 2-for-27 over its last 12 games. Toronto failed to capitalize on its two chances with the lead against Tampa Bay.

Lightning: Head coach John Cooper said he hopes Vasilevskiy can return to the lineup at some point during the team's four-game road trip, which began Monday at Scotiabank Arena.

Rielly broke the scoreless tie with 3:34 left in the first period after a rush when he fired his fifth goal of the season past Johansson and Tampa Bay forward Jake Guentzel dribbled past the Maple Leafs defenseman.

John Tavares assisted on Rielly's icebreaker and became the first Toronto player aged 35 or older to score at least 30 points before his 30th game of the season since Mats Sundin in 2007–08.
