Troy Baker explains why Death antagonist Higgs sings so much in the sequel, and it's all thanks to his Instagram.
Despite being heavily explored in Death Stranding, Troy Baker's Higgs returned as the game's main antagonist. Death Stranding 2: On the Beachsporting a new look and a new penchant for music, he played a goofy guitar and sang frequently throughout the sequel. And, according to Baker, all this happened because Hideo Kojima loved watching him sing songs on Instagram.
“We're at The Game Awards and Hideo comes up to me and says, 'Do you know why Higgs sings?' Baker recalls. YouTube show fall damage. Baker adds that Kojima explained: “During the pandemic, when I was sad, I watched your Instagram broadcasts of you singing and playing guitar, and it made me happy.” And while Baker was puzzled as to why Kojima never told him about it during filming, he said, “He really honored me with it, so I'm glad he gave me the chance to do it.”
Another major addition to Higgs in Death Stranding 2 is his super-powerful guitar. Baker says, “The only thing you can count on with KJP is: [Kojima Productions] they try to be as realistic as possible.” He explained, “They actually 3D printed what my guitar looked like so I could use it.” He adds: “Everyone had fun on set… especially Norman [Reedus]Norman is having a great time.” Since then, Kojima has been seen playing the guitar at events, so apparently Baker didn't get to take it home with him.
