Instead, Roberts released video on X Thursday in support of Carlson and Fuentes, calling the former a “close friend of the Heritage Foundation” and saying that “canceling” Fuentes is not the solution, although he personally hates what he says. In response, Heritage employees:including Heritage Fellow Preston Brashers and Richard Stern, Director of the Heritage Economic Policy Institute and the Federal Budget Center –began to criticize Roberts on social networks.
At least several Heritage employees, including Jason Bedrick, Jay Green and John Peluso, also retweeted Brashers' post. Other Conservatives, including Senator Ted Cruz and influential person Bethany MandelRoberts was also criticized. The backlash led Roberts to make the following post. on Friday condemning Fuentes' views but repeating his view “that the best way to combat anti-Semitic ideas is to challenge them directly.”
“Our job is to confront and challenge these toxic ideas at every turn to prevent them from leading America to a very dark place. Join us – not to cancel – but to guide, challenge and strengthen the conversation, and be confident, as I am, that our best ideas at the heart of Western civilization will prevail,” Roberts said in a statement.
