It's not always easy to decide what to eat for dinner. My wife and I have saved several recipes that we cook week after week. Sometimes we want to try something different, but we don't know what. Luckily, Apple News is on our iPhones there is a Food section that can help us choose delicious food and then give us a simple recipe.
When did Apple release iOS 18.4 In March, an update made it easier to find new recipes to try at home with a new Apple News section. The new section features recipes from publications such as Good Housekeeping, Food & Wine and others. You can also find other stories related to food and restaurants there.

Here's what you need to know about Apple News Food.
What is Apple News Food?
Apple News Food is a section in the Apple News app that Apple made available in iOS 18.4. “With the new Food feature, users will be able to discover stories created by Apple News editors, and browse, search and filter tens of thousands of recipes in the Recipe Catalog—with new recipes added every day,” Apple wrote in an email.
How do I access Apple News Food?
1. Open news.
2. Tap the magnifying glass in the lower right corner of the screen.
3. Tap Food.
You will see options for Recipe catalog And Saved Recipes at the top of the page and you can scroll down to see more recipes and articles.
You can also tap the spoon and grid symbol in the top right corner of your iPhone screen to access Recipe catalog.
Once you are in Recipe catalogthe fork and knife symbol will be replaced by a box symbol, which you can tap to access Saved Recipes. To save recipes, tap the recipe you're interested in, then tap Save. You will keep the recipe Saved Recipes.
How much does Apple News Food cost?
The Food section is free for everyone, but the free version only gives you access to a few stories and recipes each day. In the free version of this section, I could access recipes like million dollars. sausage balls and this cucumber-avocado-tomato sandwich. I'm not a picky eater and would happily try both options, but the free version didn't allow me to access many of the other recipes I was interested in.
However, if you subscribe to Apple News Plus (13 dollars per month) or the top tier Apple One ($38 per month), you get full access to the Food section. This means you can browse a catalog of thousands of recipes and articles, save recipes to your digital cookbook, and access recipes offline. The recipe directory makes it easy to find dinner ideas, vegetarian recipes, and even cocktails.
What else does Apple News Food offer?
You can also access what Apple calls Cooking Mode in Apple News Food, where step-by-step instructions appear full screen on your device. You'll see one step at a time, but you'll have to swipe to move to the next step. I tried asking Siri to move on to the next step, but the digital assistant ignored my requests. This might be a problem if you're cooking and your hands are covered in flour, grease, or anything else you don't want to see on your phone, but you'll still have to move on to the next step.
This feature prevents your iPhone from going to sleep or dimming the screen. Which is good because then you don't have to unlock your phone every minute to make sure you're following instructions (not that I've ever done that or anything).
In Cooking mode, you can also display the entire list of ingredients for each recipe by pressing Ingredients at the top of the screen, which means you won't have to write down the entire ingredient list the next time you go to the grocery store.
However, you can't copy and paste these ingredients or instructions from the news into another app, such as Notes. You can share a recipe link or save it as a note, but if you want to ask your roommate or partner to pick up a few ingredients while they're out, you won't be able to easily copy and paste those ingredients into a post. To access the cooking mode, tap the recipe in the app you want to try, then tap Prepare.
